Well it’s been a long time since I last blogged and having just come back from a wonderful lunch with the lovely Martine from iMakeguernsey I have been inspired to put virtual pen to virtual paper. We have had a great afternoon at the Fermain Valley Hotel in Guernsey. I was, I have to admit feeling a little jaded after the excesses of the night before so after a VERY lazy morning, set off for a spot of lunch. At this point I have to say that the weather has been freezing cold, very wet and windy and not what you would normally expect for early May!
Never being one to miss an opportunity, and after having some building work down at home and finding that the satellite dish has been moved and we have no signal at all, I asked at the hotel reception if it would be possible to make use of their private cinema. We were asked to choose one of the films from their menu. Soon there were the two of us in the big comfy leather seats watching Three Coins in the Fountain, a 1950′s classic. I believe that Martine may have Tweeted a scene from the middle of the film. For those of you that follow her on Twitter etc I am sure you will have already seen this.
The film is full of great scenery, great style and Rome with very few cars in it. I feel I may be disappointed when I visit in the summer. Somehow I think it will be an awful lot busier!
So what else have I been up to since I last blogged? Well the most exciting thing this year was my trip to Norway where I took a ship from Bergen to Kirkeness way above the Arctic Circle in February. Surprisingly it was not that cold and the MS Polarlys was very warm and comfortable. The ship was part of the Hurtigruten line, they carry the Norwegian postal service up the coast calling at lots of little towns, and a couple of bigger ones too.
Bergen is really pretty, particularly by the harbour in the old town. The rows of wooden warehouses with their bright colours were beautiful. Well worth a visit if you have the time, but, I have to say very expensive!
The scenery was fantastic and the tours that were organised well worth doing. I particularly enjoyed the walking tour of Trondheim and the trip to the Northern Cape. The pictures here are a few of my favourites. Well I did take more than 500!
Another highlight was seeing the Northern Lights. We’d been waiting all week, in fact the tour was called ‘Hunting the Lights’ and we saw them. I did get a couple of great shots but put the camera away as you just have to look up and take in their beauty and awe inspiring magic. Watching the strange green lights dance across the dark Arctic sky was breath taking and strangely emotive. I shall long remember them, but yet I also have a craving to see them again. I can understand why people become obsessive. The Aurora Borealis truly are one of the seven wonders of the natural world. So what did they look like? Well you’ll have to wait and see as I am going to post the best picture in my next blog!
Well this is my first blog, and I am not sure where this is going at the moment. I am sure I will develop my own style as I progress and will want to comment on many aspects of life and what affects me. There will also be a number of themes which I am sure will become apparent over time. These I suspect will include food, travel, health and fitness with a few hobbies thrown in for good measure. it may even include the odd review.
To get started I thought I would write about a new app I have downloaded. it is a yoga app which includes some pre-set tutorials based on all levels from compete beginner (that’s me) right the way through to expert. it covers the principle moves and the calming voice explains what to do. So yes you still know what to do even if you are standing on your head, which, to be honest, is a bit of a bonus! You can also set your own goals based on what you want to achieve. So here goes I will report back as to how I get on.
Finally I would like to thank my good friend Martine from iMake for pointing me in the write direction. I have a sneaking suspicion that she may feature from time to time! I have included a link to her website for all those of you out there who are into craft, fabrics and knitting etc.
